Is Dementia Contagious?

Is dementia contagious? No, it doesn’t come from a virus. It doesn’t come from food poisoning. It’s scarring of the brain that progresses over time.

Is it Alzheimer’s or Dementia?

Alzheimer’s disease is a type of dementia, but not all people with dementia have Alzheimer’s. Having said that, Alzheimer’s is the most common kind of dementia. It is the deposition of protein that causes people to be less aware, less engaged, making their brain work less well.

Biggest Concerns of Dementia

There’s certainly a lot of confusion surrounding dementia. “Exactly what is it? How can I treat it? How can I prevent it?” Another common question is, “Are there any new cures for dementia?” Unfortunately, that last one is easy…the answer is “no.”

How Do I Get Help?

How do you get help when a loved one has been diagnosed with dementia? If you can, have your family step in and help; it shouldn’t be just that one person who takes care of mom or dad. You can also find home care agencies or caregivers, but this can require some searching.

What Kind of Doctor Should I Get?

A lot of people go to the family doctor, and you may be lucky. It may be someone who’s taken geriatric courses. But more often than not they will say, “Well, what do you expect? They’re old!”
